The April showers have officially arrived here in Missouri. I think it has rained every day in April so far here. With that rain, warmer days came blowing in. It is getting to be shorts and sandals weather here. Which always come with the realization that my boys have outgrown their seasonal clothes. Those guys just keep growing. I tried paying them to stop, but they tell me they can’t help it…well alrighty then. A few months ago, I wrote a post about my absolutely MUST have items I get for my boys every winter. I thought I would write a post about wardrobe must-haves for summer as well. Warm weather wardrobe. Say that 10 times fast!
As I searched through clothes to determine what I needed to buy, I realized I don’t always buy the exact same items every summer. I buy the same types of clothing items, but it is a bit more fluid than my winter list. Everything fell into about five categories so I will cover those in this post. You will see, keep reading.
I am putting links to the sites where you can see more info on the items at the bottom of this post. Important to mention here, I do NOT have any advertising or affiliate links in this post. The links in the post are just for your convenience. This is purely my recommendation to you and my message hasn’t been swayed by any financial pressure – I promise. Now that we have covered all the mandatory legal obligations…let’s go shopping!
Old Navy V-neck tees and ripstop cargo shorts
I don’t usually buy a lot of my boy’s stuff at Old Navy. To be honest, my boys can be hard of clothes and in the past, the quality has been just OK. Last year, I went into a store and bought some of the V-neck tees they had and fell in love. They are super soft and look great! Such a modern cut and it instantly makes an outfit look cool. Do they say cool anymore? Anyway…then this year, I was in the store again (there’s a pattern here right?!) and picked up the new ripstop cargo shorts. Love, love, love! Lightweight and durable too! These aren’t heavy like some cargos. I went back and bought two more pair. The tees typically run about $5. Yep, five bucks. My youngest ripped a hole in the neck of one of the v-necks. I didn’t even care. Went down to the store and bought a replacement for $5. The shorts cost about $20, but Old Navy always have deals going on so you can pick them up discounted I bet.
Nike Sunray Adjust Sandals
I have bought these exact same sandals every summer since my boys were babies. They are made of a spongy material that makes them a sort of water shoe. We were them everywhere in the summer. The Velcro keeps them on and they clean up so easy. Doesn’t matter if they get wet or muddy. They are super comfy on their feet. They always come in black but every year they have a couple other colors to spice things up. You can find these a lot of places so shop around for a good deal. I have seen them at Shoe Carnival, Kohl’s, JC Penney for sure. They typically run in the $24-32 range.
Levi’s Cargo shorts
I buy these shorts every summer. Mainly because they are a classic cargo that is simply indestructible. They come in the classic colors and are a fantastic wardrobe staple. They keep my guys looking great and comfortable too! We typically get these at Kohl’s however, I know Macy’s carries them as well. Full price, they can be around $36, but you can find deals. Right now, they are $20 at Kohl’s.
Tony Hawk clothing for boys
I know what you are thinking. I have never heard of Tony Hawk’s clothing line. He’s not just skateboarding anymore! I discovered this small line carried by Kohl’s a few years ago and it quickly made my list. It seems every time someone compliments my guys on their clothing, they are wearing pieces from this line. They have some nice v-neck tees and collared polos. I also get their shorts. They usually come in black and gray and made of nice, lightweight material. Tees typically run $12-18 and the shorts are $25-32. The only place I have seen this line is at Kohl’s, so the good news is that those percent off coupons apply.
Anything Under Armour (or Nike as well)
My guys live in athletic shorts and dryfit tees and tanks in the summer. They are comfortable and light. Under Armour shorts are typically $20-30 and the tees are $15-20. You can find them at Academy and Dick’s Sporting Goods, and now, at Kohl’s. Maybe this will help keep those prices down a bit. That would be nice. For a less expensive option for athletic shorts and tees, check out Old Navy. Their performance line has some good options that I pick up from time to time
